Stravinsky is the world leader in compositional quoting. Not only quoting other composers (where he usually quotes in this way, so that only the far memory of the original is left), but also quoting himself.
I remember listening to “Le sacre du printemps” once and shouting out: “Hey, that’s a motive from ”L’Histoire du soldat”!” In the end it wasn’t exactly the same, but the two motives surely were very similar. Since that moment I’ve recognized a lot more quotings, places were Stravinsky seems to be imitating his own music.
